Earlier today, it was an atmosphere of jubilation and pageantry for the people of Orhionmwon in particular and Edo atlarge, as they welcomes their illustrious son and former Edo State Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, Hon. Osaze Osemwengie-Ero in a grand style at the Benin Airport.
Recall that Osemwengie-Ero was unjustly arrested in Amsterdam and illegally detained by the Italian Government in 2019 during one of his official trips to Germany for a meeting in consonance with the restitution of the Benin Artefacts. Before he fell victim of the crime he knew nothing about, Hon. Osemwengie-Ero was unarguably the most performing Commissioner in Edo State, following his landmark transformation and reshapening of the Ministry of Arts and Culture which many have despised and almost ruled out of development.
Hon. Osemwengie-Ero in an interview however said he was a victim of racial discrimination and manipulation of a very corrupt prosecutor of the Italian Justice system, adding that he has no skeleton in his cupboard.
He further disclosed plans to subsequently lead protest to the Italian Embassy in lieu of demanding for the release of over 300 Nigerian youths illegally detained in Italian prisons for trumped-up charges on mafia-related offences.
In his words, “We have over 300 Nigerian youths in Italian prisons illegally arrested and incarcerated for false allegations of mafia-related crimes. I have a list of all of them and I am making contact with their families. I made a promise to them that they will not be forgotten. We will campaign against the corrupt Italian Justice system and I am going to lead a protest to the Italian Embassy within the next four weeks.”
He added, "The justice system in Italy is complex and corrupt and they manipulate the justice system because they know nobody cares about Nigerians".
Hon. Osemwengie-Ero, however commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for his support and show of concern during his trials in Italy, unravelling that his arrest and incarceration had nothing to do with the State Government or Governor Obaseki.
He said: "My arrest and detention had nothing to do with the governor or Government of Edo State, though I was on an official trip to Germany for the return of the stolen artifacts. The arrest had nothing to do with money laundering"
"I wonder why people will say I was arrested with $2 million in my pocket or suitcase for the governor. The governor is too big for that as he was already rich before he became governor of the State; he is an investment banker and can't do that; that was primitive politics.”
Mega House Tv however appreciated friends, family members and well-wishers for the show of love and concern for the Ex- Performing Commissioner.
